Amazon has just started a new initiative called Project Zero to help remove counterfeit products on all Amazon marketplaces. As of the moment, Project Zero is an invite-only program and Amazon is currently contacting big brands to get on this program. What Project Zero does is help brands remove counterfeit sellers as well as their listings without intervention from Amazon. This is the answer to the issues sellers had with the site.
Amazon will try to prevent abuse of this program by auditing the accuracy of the approvals. This means that if the seller will face consequences when they report inaccurately. In other words, you have to maintain a high accuracy rate in order to continue using the program.
Another abuse-mitigation method Amazon has in mind is to let brand owners attach a special label to one each of their products. This way the verification will be easier and counterfeiters won’t have one for those labels. The only visible downside to this method is the extra charge sellers will incur for using it.
An automated system is also said to be in the works. We can send in our logos trademarks and other forms of identifications. Based on those they’ll be able to browse their stock of items and then determine whether there are fakes or not.
